Invites for GenZ, done differently
Asahi's innovation and ventures team were looking for a way to better understand Gen Z, their socialisation habits, preferences in activities and much more. Fed up with paying millions per year on research and trends data they set out to build a product that would go direct to Gen Z and in doing so help Gen Z better connect with each other.
Context
The starting point for this program of work focused on better understanding Gen Z; how they come together, connect and the natural occasions where a product solution would be most valuable.
Problem
The few years post-pandemic have seen a rapid evolution of social conditions and needs. Our hypothesis (3) evolved to recognise economic pressures, rejection of hustle culture and a growing diversification of occasions amongst Gen Z Australians.
Economic pressures have made socialising in traditional ways ($ in venues) even more inaccessible.
Like tastes, trends, friends & work; occasions (reasons to connect) are becoming more diverse.
Organising catch ups has become more difficult as there are too many apps in use and everyone now wants a say.
Objective
We were tasked with rapidly turning discovery and strategy into a tangible, real product that not only provided better, more fun ways to catch up but was unique enough to be seen as a viable competitor to the already in place tools (Snapchat, Insta, Whatsapp etc.)
Many, many deliverables can be summarised into 3 primary objectives.
Design, Validate, develop and launch a new App in Australia and facilitate better catch ups for Gen Z.
Provide Asahi with a lean and agile design/development team to build digital products and further develop a startup culture within Asahi.
Define a measurement strategy, product analytics and product feedback, testing/validation practices.
Get your mates together with voice and video invites.

Rapid design and prototyping & storymapping allowed us to get clear on impactful features and support a more effective prioritisation.

of people are collaborating in multiple ways (whole group, going to a small group first, 1:1 etc..)
New currency for this audience is how adept you are at being creative (and funny) with content (gifs/emojis)

During testing and validation there were several key pivots
AI is not the answer
While smart transcription of audio makes event creation easy it was not as important as many other features
Video and voice
offers a way to engage and connect with the person not just the interface

"From the beginning Honest Fox have felt like an extension of our own team, their passion and commitment was evident right from Discovery.
They feel just as invested in making this project a success as we are.
The cross functional team, all experts in their own fields, work seamlessly together to deliver and I really value their genuine and transparent style- not always a given with consultants!"
